Head of Building Structures (Structural Design) Location: Manchester Description A recent operational review of the UK buildings business identified the need to provide greater continuity and consistency in the way core disciplines operate and execute projects. At a project level and as we move towards delivering large and complex multi-disciplinary projects, the technical management and leadership of our core disciplines is paramount. The Northern business will require an inspirational structural engineering leader to guide, inspire and grow the local discipline teams and support the UK Technical Lead in the development of the National and European capability. The Head of Discipline is also expected to act as a risk mitigation during the bid and delivery stage of projects. Requirements * A strong technical background in structural design, construction, and procurement; * Chartered Engineer and member of a relevant professional body or equivalent level of experience; * Experience in leading building structures teams through all stages of work winning, design and procurement; * Experience and understanding of the multi-disciplinary design processes; * Ability to nurture excellent relationships with clients, with an ability to generate business, resolve problems and exceed client expectations; * Sound working knowledge of BIM within a project environment * Ability to lead design teams to eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction; * Experience in the execution of cross continental working. Responsibilities: The Head of Building Structures North will liaise closely with the UK Technical Lead, playing a key role in driving the technical capability of the regional, national and European teams. The role will provide a client facing structural lead for the region ensuring that team leaders are empowered and accountable for the performance of their team and regional discipline, whilst at the same time encouraged to be bold in exploring new areas of technical capability and previously untested clients and sectors. As a key member of the regional leadership team, a Head of Discipline will collaborate with UK Technical Leads to develop best practice both in discipline and across our multi-disciplinary team, nurturing a culture of technical excellence and continuous professional development. Responsible for: * The technical direction of the Regional discipline in conjunction with the UK Technical lead; * Raising the profile of the Buildings team within the industry, taking part in panel reviews, regional competitions and press * Managing client relationships and contributing to business development * Supporting the UK Technical Lead in the development and management of UK Building project technical assurance processes * Ensuring technical quality through implementation of best practice and continuous improvement processes * Leading the recruitment of key technical resources in collaboration with the UK Technical Lead * Providing technical leadership on bids and opportunities * Be accountable for technical performance, quality and budget control on all projects within the region/team and have a hands on approach to resolving internal or external challenges Rewards This is a business who firmly believes in rewarding their staff like no other.
