Financial Assessment Officer Job in Dorchester, Dorset Temporary Contract – Maybe reviewed ASAP until Friday 1ST December 2017 Full Time 37 Hours per week £8.52 per hour Monday – Friday 09.00am – 17.30pm DT1 1XJ We are seeking an Financial Assessment Officer to join Dorset County Council – Adult and Community Division on a temporary contact. You will be required to conduct assessments of service user contributions and payment of the Directorate's contribution for care services. To carry out other financial assessments necessary within the Directorate, monitor direct payments and to assist with recovery of income when debtors have failed to pay their assessed charges and accounts have fallen into arrears. • Maintain an up to date knowledge of state benefit entitlement and changes to legislation and advise service users of their entitlement to benefits. • Obtain and verify the financial information necessary to carry out financial assessments, by personal visit to service user and/or their appointed agent, and to financially assess the service user contribution in accordance with Department of Health and the Directorate's regulations assuming maximum benefit entitlement. • Investigate deprivation of assets or income of service users applying for funding, and report to the Exchequer Services Manager any suspicious applications considered fraudulent. • Notify service users of their assessed contribution and follow standard procedures for legal charges where appropriate. • Carry out financial monitoring of Direct Payment Service Users accounts on a regular basis. • Be responsible for the follow-up of debtor accounts, to pursue and obtain payments to not fall into arrears (this may involve direct contact with the service users, their families or representatives). • Forward bad debts to the Corporate Services Directorate, having consulted fully with District staff and finance officer to confirm court action is appropriate, and to liaise fully with County Treasurer's Income Section, Local Office staff, Corporate Services and any other necessary person regarding progress. Within your CV you must show evidence of the following skills: • Evidence of previous experience in a similar role must be shown within CV. • Experience of processing Benefit Claims • Understanding of basic office procedures, state benefit system and benefit entitlements • Previous experience of working in a Benefits Agency, Benefits Advice Agency or equivalent • Experience of personal accounts and financial audit • Relevant and transferable experience in an administrative role, using IT systems • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, accurately and in appropriate detail • Organisation skills and ability to work to deadlines • Ability to prioritise workload and pay attention to detail • Team work is essential with this role as you will be talking to people from all levels Candidates must hold: • Valid Passport or Full Birth Certificate with proof of National Insurance • 2 years’ previous employment reference history City Centre Council Services Division receive various temporary positions every week – To get job alerts via email please email CV to VICKY now.
